We need your feedback! Please help make next year's event even better than this year's by leaving race organizers feedback about your experiences this year. We need your throughts, insights, suggestions, and criticism.
Thank you to all the mushers for making my job so easy ! Without your professional ,fun and flexible attitudes and behavior the Copperdog would not be the great event that it is.. Thanks Lyle
Once again the Copperdog organization has shown their passion and dedication to putting on an outstanding event! It is very impressive to see how quickly the RGO can make changes when needed like they did Sunday morning to make sure we had a nice, safe start of out Copper Harbor. Everyone involved from the sponsors, volunteers, vets and communities do a wonderful job of working together to put on a class act event.
Please keep the six dog class a two stage event!! Adding a second stage makes it feel as though we have a mini stage stop which is so exciting for those of us who are unable to easily head west to race the Eukanuba Stage Stop. I loved the two stage format with a day of rest in between for our dogs!
I do have to say I was very disappointed the six dog class only offered plaques down to third place. Those plaques were beautiful and I was really hoping to receive one for my teams 5th place finish since the purse paid down to 5th place!!!
This year was my first year going to school at Tech. I also decided to join a sorority while at Tech and with that, we decided to volunteer at CopperDog for the first time ever! It was awesome! We were so excited to help the mushers and everyone was so helpful and welcoming! So, here's a huge thank you from the Theta Chi Epsilon sisters for welcoming us into your family! :)
Since the inception of CopperDog the actual *content* of the final awards banquet has been little more than an afterthought, meaning, people spend so much time planning the race, they forget to plan what needs to be covered at the banquet. So we end up pulling everything together as people are showing up for dinner and hope we don't miss anything. The absolute worse thing that happens is we somehow miss acknowledging volunteers who make important contributions that are at the dinner.
When Meredith asked me to MC the meeting, I actually spent a few hours preparing (the morning of) and coming up with a way to make the TON of material we needed to get through a little more fun and entertaining. God knows these types of events can be dull, dull, dull.
Maybe the fun went a little too far this time or maybe it didn't, fun is in the eye of each guest, but what I really really feel terrible about that I totally overlooked one of the most important people in the room... Heather Maki!
For 5 straight years CopperDog has seriously struggled with doing something with that snow road we install in downtown Calumet for the weekend; the road that blocks access to all of the downtown businesses. We were on the verge of pulling the snow road out Friday nights and moving the finish from the downtown to a trail.
Then Heather Maki came along, started managing the Saturday actives, ran with the Dog House Race concept and suddenly, Saturday's on the snow road started working and growing in popularity every year.
Heather, I'm sorry that I missed acknowledging you at the awards dinner. You are quiet, humble, and totally awesome at what you do. More than anyone (because I lived through all the problem years and could never solve the problem) I appreciate what you do for C-Dog by managing the Saturday Events! Thank you!
Events require everyone working together and you did it so well it appeared effortless! This was my first year as a volunteer so I didn't know what to expect! In short it was exhilarating! The group I was with on the outskirts of Calumet was polite, positive, helpful and fun to be with. There was coffee, hot chocolate, a bonfire, hand and feet warmers, a tent with a heater and helpful hands! I had a front row seat watching the mushers and sled dogs because I was one of the crossing guards . The mushers were as friendly as the volunteers and thanked us all as they went through. It was inspiring to watch the teams working so hard to compete in the cold ! ...And the youngest musher warmed my heart with his determination and spirit despite some obstacles!. Nom Raskin Rocks!!! He gave everyone a great example of SISU!!!! Thank you Nom for your "can do and will do " attitude and actions! Thank you to the Copper Dog 150 for making my weekend spectacular!
Just a thought to see if it pans out.For the future CD 80 maybe an 8 dog pool would be better. 80 miles seems a bit long for six dogs even with one day off. Will be interesting to see how it goes.
Your dates are wrong on your event calendar! (Some of the dates atleast)
Looking forward to the race!
Is there even going to be a CopperDog 2016? Your website doesn't seem to indicate so. It's just weeks away! We've got snow...well sorta...we're going to get some, and it's going to get cold! So why isn't there some publicity? Update your website. Thanks.
